TENANTS OF THE HOUSE

Tenants of the House follows Honourable Samuel Bakura, a principled young legislator representing a Kaduna constituency in Nigeria’s House of Representatives. Caught in a web of political intrigue, Samuel is lured into a plot to impeach Speaker Yaya Mohammed, spearheaded by the ambitious Hon. Elizabeth Bello and backed by President Ambrose, who seeks revenge for Yaya’s defiance in the House. Samuel eventually withdraws from the plot, but new pressure mounts as Ambrose moves to push a controversial third-term constitutional amendment. At the same time, Samuel is fighting to pass his Grazing Field Bill, aimed at ending deadly farmer-herder clashes that once claimed his father’s life. During a research trip, he falls for Batejo, a Fulani woman promised to another man. Samuel offers to compensate her suitor and even agrees to undergo a traditional flogging ritual (sharro) to prove his worth. His romance draws outrage from his Hausa community, further complicating his position. Meanwhile, his Grazing Bill’s success is made conditional on supporting the third-term plot. Torn between love, ethics, and political survival, Samuel must decide if integrity is worth the cost in a system driven by power, compromise, and betrayal.
